Pre-Season Testing with Redline Time Attack

February 28, 2010

This past Friday Berk Technology headed out to the Streets of Willow Springs Raceway with our time attack BMW 135i for the Redline Time Attack Official Test Day.  While we are still waiting on a number of parts to come in for our off-season improvements, we didn’t have much to test, but the decision was made last-minute to go out to the event and test anyway just to double-check and make sure the parts that are on the car are in proper working order.  With that in mind, driver Mike Bonanni set out on the track for some mild laps.  We are proud to announce that everything on the car up to this point is in proper working order.

The new APEX Race Parts ARC-8 wheels not only looked great but provided plenty of clearance for a little wider tires that will be added before the first race of the season.  We tested the limits of our wheel fitment with new spacers from Velocity Motorcars to see just how much room we have with our custom offset wheels.

Our new OEM E92 M3 front suspension components and Velocity Motorcars rear suspension arms greatly reduced the deflection that the old OEM part’s rubber bushings caused providing a much better and more confident feeling car.  The new Velocity Motorcars rear camber and toe arms also proved to be very easy to make adjustments to as we played around with toe settings late in the day.

The AEM Electronics Water/Methanol injection kit has been installed on the car, but unfortunately had to remain disconnected as we have not been able to tune the car with it just yet.  We have a long list of things that will get done on the car in the coming month including our OS Giken Super Lock Limited Slip Differential, custom KW Clubsport coilovers, GIAC tune, and much more.  With our new upgrades and the feedback we learned from our test session this past Friday, we are going into the 2010 Redline Time Attack season opener with more confidence than we ever have before.   Be sure to come out and cheer us on March 26-28th at Buttonwillow Raceway for Round 1 of the 2010 Redline Time Attack season!

Berk Technology Charity Ride-A-Longs A Success!

February 22, 2010

The 2010 season has officially started for the Berk Technology crew and race team!  Our first event was not a race, but a charity event with 100% of the proceeds going to the American Red Cross for their Haitian relief efforts.  This event was also the debut for the new look and new sponsors on our Time Attack BMW 135i and our 370Z demo car!

The event was put on by Fatlace and featured the Hellaflush 3.5 car show, a Team Drift Championship drift competition, and an open track day.   Our portion of the event consisted of giving ride-a-longs around Buttonwillow Raceway’s West Loop in exchange for a charitable donation to the American Red Cross.  Originally we were going to give rides around the track in our Time Attack BMW 135i with our new driver Mike Bonanni behind the wheel, but unfortunately our car had other plans.  After years of flawless performance, one of our fuel pumps decided that it would pick the day before the event to start having problems.  Luckily, good friend and fellow time attack competitor Ed Lee and his Berk Technology equipped Honda S2000 were able to fill in for our 135i in the role of taking people around for the ride of a lifetime.

The threat of rain couldn’t keep the crowds away and luckily for all of them, the rain didn’t show and the event would go on to be quite successful!  As the crowds poured in, so did the donations and we were able to take 25 people for rides around the track and raised a grand total of $400 to go to the American Red Cross!  The people at this event were very excited for what we were doing and that made it very fun for us.  Judging by the big grins and reactions of our ride-a-long passengers, we’re guessing they had fun too.

We would like to thank Fatlace, Ed Lee, KW Suspension, DRIFTENVY Clothing, The Kern County Chapter of the American Red Cross, and our wonderful fans who helped make this event such a success!

Velocity Motorcars Rear Camber/Toe Arms on the Time Attack 135i

February 17, 2010

In our ongoing pursuit for victory in the Redline Time Attack series we continue to find the best quality parts to help us make our Time Attack BMW 135i faster.  When it came to addressing the rear alignment parts, we looked no further than Velocity Motorcars.  Their rear camber and toe arms for the 135i are second to none in quality and fitment.  A direct replacement of the factory arms, the Velocity Motorcars arms offer a much greater range of adjustment which will allow us to dial in exactly what we want in terms of alignment settings in the rear.

A proper alignment is often overlooked as one of the main components to making a car fast around a road course.  Your alignment settings can make the difference between running your best lap or having a car that is un-driveable.  Not only does a proper alignment help tremendously in the handling department, but it also extends your tire life by evenly disbursing heat and wear across the entire contact patch.

These, combined with the OEM E92 M3 front suspension arms we installed last month, will help our little 135i get closer to our 2010 goals!  Thank you to Velocity Motorcars for making such a wonderful product.

Take A Ride Around Buttonwillow in our 135i!

February 4, 2010

Berk Technology is proud to announce its first official event of the 2010 year!  And what better way to kick off the year than by raising money for a worthy cause.  In conjunction with Fatlace and their Hellaflush 3.5 event, Berk Technology will be setting up an official American Red Cross donation center near the car show area where participants can make donations, check out our 370Z demo car, check out our 135i time attack car, and more.   The really exciting part is that those who donate $10 or more and meet the age/health requirements will be able to sit shotgun for a hot lap around the famous Buttonwillow Raceway in our time attack BMW 135i!  Those who donate $10 or more will also get a free goodie bag filled with stuff from our sponsors and event supporters!

The event itself will be jam packed full of stuff to see and watch.  The hottest cars on the west coast will flock to the Hellaflush 3.5 car show, while drift fans will get their fill watching the Team Drift Championship event.  There will also be an open track day on the road course, and of course, our charity ride-a-long program.  The event takes place Sunday February 21st out at Buttonwillow Raceway, just outside of Bakersfield, CA off the 5 freeway.
