Berk Technology Wins Inaugural MotoIQ PTCC Race!

Fresh off of winning the 2010 Redline Time Attack Street Tire RWD Championship, the Berk Technology team and their BMW 135i headed out to Willow Springs Raceway to compete in the first ever Pacific Tuner Car Championship (PTCC) race.  The new series is the brainchild of Mike Kojima and pits time attack style cars against seasoned road racers in a half hour long wheel-to-wheel sprint race where the first to cross the finish line wins!  The Berk Technology BMW 135i was placed in the Tuner Over class which features the highest horsepower and quickest cars of the MotoIQ series.

The Berk Technology BMW 135i has already proven itself as a consistent winner in 2010 yet the team continued to refine the chassis in the offseason.  Additional enhancements were made to the cooling system and AEM Methanol kit for further reliability over the course of the 30-minute race.  The new PTCC series allows for any DOT legal tire so the Berk team opted for the Hankook Z214 DOT racing slick wrapped around a new set of VMR Wheels.

Mike Bonanni once again served driving duties behind the wheel of the mighty 135i.  Bonanni set the pace early on by qualifying the car on the pole position against a star studded field with the likes of FormulaD all-stars, Daijiro Yoshihara and Joon Maeng, and GrandAm driver, Brian Lock.  As the green flag dropped Bonanni was first into turn one with the Berk Technology 135i with Brian Lock his Nissan 350Z close in tow.  Bonanni extended his lead over Lock to over four seconds before the race would receive its first and only caution flag.  After the single file re-start the Berk 135i kept the lead into turn one and remained there until receiving the checkered flag as the first ever PTCC Champion!

“This was a really fun and challenging change of pace for the Berk Technology team.  We proved last year that we could make a car that was capable of turning a fast lap.  With this race we proved that we could also turn consistent fast laps over the course of a 30 minute wheel-to-wheel race.  It feels great to qualify first and win our first event in the new MotoIQ PTCC series.”Mike Bonanni, Driver of Berk Technology BMW 135i

Berk Technology would like to thank Hankook Tire, Performance Friction, KW Suspension, European Auto Source, VMR Wheels, GIAC, VFiber, APR Performance, SEIBON Carbon, AEM Electronics, and OS Giken for their support.  We would also like to thank and Redline Track Events for putting on an excellent event.  You can see the Berk Technology BMW 135i next at the fifth annual MFest event in Las Vegas, NV April 22nd – 24th.
